Windows 7 is the newest operating system from Microsoft suited for desktop computers. One of the greatest benefits of this new operating system is the level of flexibility and customization that is built in. You can tweak the Windows 7 interface to meet your needs in a wide variety of ways.

#1: Shake the Desktop Free from Clutter: If you have a lot of windows open and want to minimize everything but your current working window, click on and hold the title bar of the desired window, then shake it back and forth quickly. Everything else will minimize to your taskbar.

#2: Power Efficiency Report: Log in as the administrator and run a command prompt by typing “cmd” in your search box. Type in “powercfg -energy -output \Folder\Energy_Report.html” where “Folder” is going to represent where the report should be saved. Windows 7 is then going to examine your laptop’s behavior and will create an HTML report for you to look at.

#3: Customize Shut Down Button: The default action for your shut down button is to turn your PC off, but you can use it for other actions as well, such as restarting. Click on the arrow to the right of “Shut Down”, and select another action from your drop-down menu. There are different options to choose from including restart, change user, lock, log off, sleep and hibernate.

#4: Select Multiple Files. To select numerous files at once so that you can copy, move or delete them, instead of using CTRL and clicking, what you can do is use the check boxes. Click on “Organize” in the folder, followed by “Folder and Search Option”, then click “View” and “Use Check Boxes to Select Items”. Now click on OK. Now you can use the mouse to select multiple files rather than the mouse and the keyboard at the same time to achieve the same thing.
