Windows 7 Tips

Now, if you’re a Mac user, the first tip you might have for those who are running Windows 7 is to NOT use it. But the Koolaid isn’t as tasty to everyone as it might be to you. For those who are still PC users or who want to have Windows 7 on the computer of their dreams, there are a number of different tips you can use to make sure you’re utilizing this system to the best of your ability. After all, when you install a new program, you want to make sure it works with you and not against you.

Shake Your Desktop Free of Clutter

One of the best parts of Windows 7 is that it can shift from task to task more easily and you can have more than one window up at any given time. While this is a good thing, it can also be a bad thing. Your desktop can get cluttered pretty quickly, leading you to have troubles finding out what you were doing. This is not a good situation for all of your ADD folks out there. Instead, use this easy tip. Just take the mouse and click onto the window you want to save. Keep the mouse button down while you shake the mouse side to side. This will close all of the other windows but the one that you’re holding onto. Pretty cool, huh?

Use the Default Features

One of the primary changes in Windows 7 is that you can customize nearly anything. When you are in a program, you should simply go to the properties or options menu to see how you can adjust the way the program works. For example, in the shut down menu, you can customize this to always shut down in the same way. Just go to options and then make the way you want to shut down the default. While this doesn’t mean you can’t change it again, you will be able to make things work the way you want them to work.

Consider Desktop Widgets

You can also install simple desktop widgets that will help you access the weather, your stocks, etc. You will want to look through the long list of available widgets before you select them and then install them onto your desktop to make sure they are always in reach. Similar to the Mac, this allows you to get your desktop more customized to your needs. So long as you can access the Internet, the widgets can update themselves. A word of caution – too many widgets will lead to clutter and they can slow down your system.

When you have Windows 7, you will find it’s much more user friendly and faster than the previous versions. However, this does not mean it will do all of the customization for you. You need to dive into your computer if you want it to do what you want it to do.
